NTA Health Coaching Foundations
✅ Client-Centered Coaching
Recognizing that the client is the expert in their life, NTA health coaches empower clients to strengthen their belief in themselves and confidence in their ability to make consistent progress toward their unique vision of health and wellness.
✅ Client Bio-individuality
NTA health coaches honor client bio-individuality, recognizing there is no one size fits all approach to health coaching. Listening to the client’s experience and honoring client accessibility, NTA health coaches draw from their health coaching skills and tools to meet the client where they are.
✅ Relationships of Trust
NTA health coaches hold a safe place for clients to continually feel seen, heard, encouraged, trusted and supported. Honoring the courage of the client to ask for support, NTA health coaches seek understanding first through active listening and active observing, offering compassion and empathy, and trusting the client’s experience.
✅ Client Resilience
NTA health coaches foster client resilience, recognizing client ambivalence and struggles as a normal part of the process while encouraging self-compassion, self-kindness, and a growth mindset in clients.
✅ Coach Care & Ethics
NTA health coaches prioritize coach self-care, supporting their health through nutrition, lifestyle, and mindset. Understanding the roles and responsibility of both coach and client, NTA health coaches adopt a high standard of ethics and set healthy boundaries while supporting clients within scope of practice.

Curriculum
The NTA Health Coach Program covers a full range of topics from coaching process and coaching structure to ethics and health and wellness.
Each module includes engaging video lectures and classroom materials that are accessible through our online learning platform in Canvas.
Practical Skills
Students learn our complete NTA Model of Coaching and Coaching Session Structure. We reinforce coaching competencies through practical experience working with clients, real world coaching techniques, ways to manage client onboarding and follow-up sessions, tools for assessing clients’ bio-individual health and wellness, ways of determining optimal health goals, and supporting the client in creating life-changing action steps.
Online Classroom Environment
Guided by the Health Coach Program Director and Coaching Mentors, students are expected to complete the coursework independently, following a weekly schedule to stay on pace with assignments, client work, and exams. The instructional team hosts weekly live calls to discuss the current module’s curriculum, present additional resources and topics for students to explore, and hold an open Q&A for student inquiries.
Assessments
Assessments are focused on critical thinking and engagement through practical and written assignments that allow students to assess, build upon, and apply their firsthand knowledge to future clients. They include traditional written assignments, coaching sessions with practice clients, a practical skills assessment, and a final written exam. Additionally, students are given action-oriented assignments that provide opportunities to practice what they’ve learned.
Why are
Health Coaches Needed?
Research reveals that as many as 40% of patients fail to adhere to recommendations and when preventative or treatment plans are complex or require lifestyle changes, the number of patients who don’t follow through can be as high as 70%.
