What is Nutritional Therapy? Holistic and Bio-individual Nutrition
Did you know that less than 15% of physician visits include any nutritional counseling? (source) With more chronic disease and ailments originating from nutritional deficiencies than ever before, our healthcare climate is in dire need of an alternative solution. That’s where Nutritional Therapy comes into play.
What is Nutritional Therapy?
Nutritional Therapy centers on the idea that real health can be achieved through a holistic and bio-individual approach to nutrition and lifestyle. We believe that many of modern society’s health problems result from weaknesses in the body’s physiological foundations brought on by poor nutrition.
At the NTA, we are dedicated to helping healthcare professionals and individuals reverse the negative effects of the modern diet through nutritional therapy. Throughout our programs, students learn a wide range of educational tools and techniques to identify and correct nutritional imbalances and deficiencies. Our programs cover scientific principles about how the human body functions, both anatomically and physiologically. The curriculum also addresses: properly prepared and nutrient dense whole foods diet, digestion, blood sugar regulation, fatty acids, minerals, and hydration.

“Why I chose the NTC program” hear from Food By Mars’ Alison Marras
*UPDATE October 8, 2019: We have updated our program offerings since this post was originally published. Learn more about our programs.
The NTA got the chance to sit down with the lovely Alison Marras, NTC of Food ByMars. Alison is a Certified Health Coach and went on to take our Nutritional Therapy Consultant program in 2018. Alison curates a website full of nutrient dense recipes, health related articles, and one-on-one consulting opportunities. She specializes in PCOS & hormonal imbalance, painful and irregular menstruation, autoimmune diseases, hypothyroid & hyperthyroid, adrenal fatigue, and so much more.
While you are contemplating if the NTC program is right for you, we think you should consider some of the many reasons why Alison Marras chose this program for her certification.
Why I chose NTC over NTP:
Most of my clients are remote and I knew they would be, so having the hands-on portion that the NTP curriculum covers wasn’t a requirement for my practice. I’m also known for recipes and that’s how most of my clients find me, so they’re big on wanting meal plans, etc. and help with gaining more confidence in the kitchen. But I really wanted to be able to educate them more on what the food is doing to their bodies and why they’d want to make smarter, nutrient-dense decisions on the food they consume.
My favorite part about the program:
One of the best things about the NTA is the amazing, tight-knit community, and the fact that I was able to help myself in my own healing journey on a deeper level through learning this curriculum. I no longer get overwhelmed by symptoms, and have a strong system for prioritizing what area to begin with in order to heal at a deeper level.
How I use the tools I learned, in my business and life:
I use the entire Nutri-q, client questionnaire process as taught to us. I even guide my remote clients through Coca’s pulse test and sometimes other tests as needed. It’s brought immense value to my clients and to how I’m able to help them.
With the fully online NTC program you will obtain practical skills to serve your clients. The program takes an in-depth look at:
+ Food quality and sourcing
+ Culinary skills
+ Meal planning
+ Health and wellness barriers and influences, emotional well-being, environmental factors
+ The importance of sleep and movement
+ Stress and its effect on the body
+ Motivational interviewing techniques
+ Clinical and practical tools for assessing clients’ bio-individual needs
+ Determining optimal health goals
+ Designing customized nutrition and lifestyle protocols
+ Cutting-edge knowledge to become a highly recognized nutrition and wellness professional in their community and so much more…
Students also have free access to Modernmeal, a meal plan creation & nutritional analysis tool for use with clients. And Nutri-Q, a cloud-based Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire software.
